The Severn King ferry at Aust and a line of waiting cars. The Severn Bridge in the background is nearly finished and about to make the ferry redundant. The Severn King had a short career after this as a support vessel for the Sharpness railway bridge demolition crew until it was wrecked by settling on a bridge pier. The Aust Ferry Terminal is the location of the iconic photograph of Bob Dylan which was used as an album cover.
In today's picture the bridge colours have been reversed. The bright new 1960s concrete has gone dull and dirty. The superstructure has been repainted from grey into brilliant white. As you can see not much of the pier remains today. I got as close as I could manage to where I thought Mr Coleman stood. I know it looks like I could have gotten closer, but there deep mud and water from here on out.
